Navigating Early-Career Decisions for Success in Physiatry Practice (Chicago)

Intended for physiatrists completing their training (PGY-3, PGY-4 and fellows) and physiatrists within the first 3 years post-training, this early-career course provides a roadmap to navigating the early years of establishing a successful physiatry career. The course will focus on building leadership skills in the workplace and within professional organizations, getting started with licensure and MOC, practice improvement, and non-clinical career opportunities. The course will explore various practice settings and a panel will share relative advantages and disadvantages of each. Finally, the course will review various physician performance metrics and compensation strategies, as well as outline the many AAPM&R resources that assist the early-career physiatrist.

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Recognize advantages and disadvantages of various practice settings.
  • Identify leadership opportunities within the local practice/organization and within the greater medical community.
